Introduction to the Xotica EA-1:

Xotica EA-1

I am a huge fan of the guitars made by Xotica! I first purchased their BX-1 Roland-Ready guitar synthesizer controller years ago, and could not believe the high quality of their design and production. These guitars are produced with a combination of CNC and hand wood working techniques. Check out the photos below, the workmanship on this guitar is as good as any hand-crafted guitar you can find. These guitars and built and designed in the U.S.A.

After I bought the original BX-1 I bought this EA-1 later, and this was the first EA-1 I ever saw for sale. Since each guitar is hand built, I noticed that Xotica tends to vary the features. There is no current version of the EA-1 made quite like this guitar.

Basically, this guitar has two outputs, a natural, acoustic sound, available on an independent 1/4 jack, and a 13-pin Roland-Ready synthesizer output. The acoustic sound is also sent with the synthesizer signals, so you can easily process both the synthesizer output, and acoustic sound, with modern Roland guitar synths like the VG-99. Check out the demos below!

This guitar has a long list of features, but the highlights would include construction using premium woods, the Buzz Feiten Patented Tuning system, three-band equalizer with a sweepable mid-range control, Sperzel locking tuners and a comfortable, light weight. In fact, this guitar only weighs 5 pounds, 14 ounces, putting it in the range of the high-end Park guitars!

I made one modification to this guitar: I changed the function of the "guitar/guitar+synthesizer/synthesizer" output switch, to work as the Roland GK S1/S2 switch. This was easy to do, and involved moving the switch connector on the Graph Tech circuit board. I actually called Graph Tech, and they explained how to do this.

You can check out the video demos and see how this guitar works as an acoustic guitar, and as a guitar synthesizer controller. I did a demo with the Roland VG-99, but I have also used this guitar with the Roland GI-20, GR-20, GR-33 and VG-88. This guitar will basically work with any Roland 13-pin guitar synthesizer.

I have received requests for more information on these guitar, and the company had a variety of websites, none of which are currently online at this time: www.xsatori.com, www.xoticguitar.com and www.hedesignsrox.com.
